End of Year Info

Boles Band Family,

First of all I want to congratulate all of the kids on a fantastic concert last week! Thank you for being flexible as we changed the flow of the concert.

We have a few things left on our band calendar to wrap up this school year.
1. School-owned instrument turn-in
Students with a school-owned instrument that stays at home need to turn those in to the BOLES BAND HALL on Wednesday (5/28) or Thursday (5/29). All of our elementary instrument inventory is being transferred to Boles. You can either come during the school day or after school. We will be at school from 8:15 - 4:30 those days. We will continue to play on school-owned instruments that stay in the band hall until the end of the year.
2. School-owned instrument repair
As instruments are turned in, we will assess the condition of the instrument and determine if any repairs need to be made. The district will pay for normal wear and tear issues (such as old pads on woodwind instruments or a chemical cleaning for brass). However, students are responsible or student-inflicted damage (such as dents or broken/bent keys). We will contact you individually about these repairs (hopefully you won't hear from us!!).
3. SPRING PICNIC!!
Our Spring Picnic is next Friday, May 30th from 6:00 - 8:30 PM at Bowman Springs Park (7003 W Poly Webb Road, Arlington, TX 76016). Our boosters will provide hot dogs and paper products, but families attending the picnic need to please contribute the following:
6th graders: 2 liter drink
7th graders: bag of chips
8th graders: dessert
Feel free to bring sporting equipment that you would enjoy playing with, HOWEVER, we will not be using lake or any water toys in any way. :)

Thanks for helping make the end of the school year go smoothly! Please let us know if you have any questions.

Summer Band Camps

One of my favorite parts of being a band student in junior high was going to university-sponsored band camps with my friends. Students can either stay in the college dorm and eat in the college cafeteria for the duration of camp or commute each day. The universities provide full group and small group instruction during the day and activities at night. Each band will present a concert at the end of the camp. They are a fun way to keep playing our instruments over the summer.

Some of the registration deadlines are approaching quickly, so check them out soon!

There are several band camps in the area that are worth checking out:
TCU Band Camp
UTA Band Camp
If you want to travel a little farther ....
Texas Tech Band Camp
Stephen F Austin Band Camp (I attended this one in HS)
University of Houston Band Camp
Sam Houston State University Band Camp

There are also some instrument-specific opportunities to explore:
Floot Fire
Bocal Majority & Operation OBOE
TCU Summer Clarinet Workshop
Low Brass Camp (Heavy Metal) (New 5/30)
